The Citizens Debate Commission – Sierra Leone (CDC-SL) is an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to making presidential, vice-presidential, and party primary debates a permanent part of our democratic process.
CDC-SL is strictly nonpartisan. We do not endorse, support, or oppose any candidate, political party, or government. Our work is guided by fairness and impartiality, ensuring that all participants and political actors are given an equal platform to present their vision to the people of Sierra Leone.
We are committed to conducting all our activities in a manner that is open, accountable, and accessible to the public. From the planning of debates to the publication of educational resources, CDC-SL ensures that processes are clear and decisions are made in the public interest.
CDC-SL believes that every voice matters in the democratic process. We design our debates and educational programs to reach a broad and diverse audience—including youth, women, persons with disabilities, and rural communities—ensuring that no citizen is left behind in national conversations.
Beyond debates, CDC-SL is dedicated to educating voters about the democratic process, the role of debates, and the importance of issue-based politics. We provide resources and programs that empower citizens to make informed choices, strengthening democratic culture across the nation.
We uphold the principle that leaders must answer directly to the people. By creating platforms for candidates to present, defend, and clarify their policies, CDC-SL fosters a culture of accountability where politicians are evaluated not by slogans, but by substance and vision.
Our Visions & Mission
In Sierra Leone, access to reliable political information has often been limited. Citizens frequently cast their votes without a full understanding of candidates’ policy priorities, qualifications, or past performance. In such an environment, debates between rival political candidates provide a powerful tool for bridging the information gap.

Why Debates Matter
When leaders stand side by side and answer real questions about the issues that matter, voters get the chance to see who truly has the vision, the character, and the commitment to serve. Debates give people the information they need to make informed choices, and they remind leaders that their words and promises will be remembered long after the campaign is over.
